West Inn and Suites has Great Amenities and Attention to Detail

During our recent family vacation in San Diego, we had the great pleasure of spending two nights at the West Inn and Suites which is located in the city of Carlsbad, a North San Diego County seaside city. Since one of our vacation days was going to be spent at LEGOLAND and this hotel is a short 5 minute drive away from the theme park, it was a perfect place to stay and jump start our day at the park.

The West Inn and Suites is an upscale boutique hotel that has 86 guest rooms with 36 of those being suites. The hotel caters to its variety of guests with an amazing array of amenities and complimentary services. It also has two top-notch on-site restaurants, Bistro West and West Steak and Seafood, that offer locally grown “farm to table” ingredients.

The Sweet Suites

One of the things that we love and look for in our hotel rooms is a separate sleeping and living area. Having these separate areas allows the parents to enjoy their night while the kids are soundly sleeping in the other room. The hotel offers guests two types of suites, King and Double King, that are a spacious 390 and 517 square feet, respectively and have both a living and sleeping area.

King Suite Room

Our wonderful night at the hotel was spent in the King Suite which has a living room with a full size sofa bed, an HD TV, DVD Player, desk and a kitchenette. It didn’t take long for our daughter to pull out the bed from the sofa and set up camp in the living room. Down the hall was our room which has a comfortable king size pillow top bed, an HD TV, DVD Player and a sitting area with a comfortable chair and a table.

In addition to the great layout of our suite, the West Inn and Suites goes beyond the norm by adding little extras you don’t see in most hotel rooms. The living room has a kitchenette which has a mini fridge with two welcome waters, microwave, sink and coffee maker. The bathrooms are stocked with Aveda bath products, makeup hand towels, a hair dryer not attached to the wall and really soft bath towels. The bedroom comes with two soft and comfy robes, a huge safe which fits laptops and many other items, and an extra comforter that we used for our daughter’s sofa bed. The rooms also come with cable TV with HBO (they even print out a list of channels for you) and complimentary high speed WiFi.

West Inn and Suites Hotel Features

In addition to your nice room or suite, the hotel itself has a great variety of amenities and extras to get you out of your room. The West Inn and Suites has done a fantastic job at providing you with those little extras that you usually don’t get at other hotels.

Breakfast Buffet

The hotel provides a very nice complimentary breakfast buffet between 6:30 – 9:30 Monday through Friday and 6:30 – 10:00 on the weekends. In their breakfast room, they offer a nice variety of food with eggs, bacon, potatoes, french toast, pastries, muffins, yogurt, oatmeal, cereal, bagels, toast and a variety of juices and coffee. Right outside their breakfast buffet room is a very nice dining room with plenty of seating to enjoy your breakfast. Our food was quite tasty and it was a great start to our day before we headed out to LEGOLAND.

On our second day eating the breakfast buffet, they had sausage instead of bacon and I commented to my wife that “I am going to miss having that crisp bacon.” One of the hotel staff overheard me and asked if I wanted her to cook up some bacon for my breakfast. I politely declined, but I thought it was a very nice gesture and it showed how much the staff will do what they can to have you enjoy your stay with them.

Pool & Spa

This is the nice, family friendly hotel pool of the West Inn and Suites.

The West Inn and Suites has a nice pool and spa area located at the front of the hotel. The pool is heated to a nice semi-warm temperature and is only five feet deep at the center of the pool. The pool and spa area are gated so the young ones can’t wander in or out of the area without the parents. One of our favorite amenities of the hotel is along the entrance gate of the pool. Among the tables and storage chests at the pool you will find towels, ice water with lemon slices, swimming diapers, magazines as well as floaties, pool noodles and balls for the pool. All you have to do is put on your bathing suit and head down to the pool.

West Inn and Suites’ Restaurants

The hotel has two very nice on-site restaurants that are a very short walk from the hotel entrance. Bistro West and West Steak and Seafood both offer “farm to table” ingredients from their own West Farm. On our first night at the hotel, we had the pleasure of having a family dinner at Bistro West. The restaurant has nicely decorated contemporary feel with a fun and semi-casual atmosphere. With dishes ranging from comfort foods with a gourmet twist to elegant steak and seafood menu items, Bistro West has something for all tastes.

The Little Extras

There are certain things you expect a hotel to provide you during your stay and then there are those little extras that surprise and delight you that you didn’t expect at all. The West Inn and Suites is full of these nice extras that will have you and the kids happy you chose to stay there. Our daughter’s favorite amenity was the complimentary DVD movies that you can get in the lobby to watch in your room. Another delightful extra is the complimentary coffee, tea, pastries and cookies that the hotel has available in the lobby. Throw in the free HBO, WiFi, breakfast buffet and pool toys and you see why this hotel is one of our family’s favorite places to stay.
