Boggy Creek Airboat Rides In Orlando

Explore the Everglades Wetlands in an Airboat

Our visit to Orlando would not have been complete for our family and friends without a true airboat ride. I have memories of those types of boats from watching Gentle Ben (way back when) and on our latest trip to Florida; I just had to experience that first hand.

One thing I learned is that Orlando has quite a selection of airboat tours available. I pretty much looked everywhere before selecting the friendly folks over at Boggy Creek. My selection was made based on the detailed information they provided on their website, their friendly staff and the accessibility to and from Orlando. Another perk was that you did not need a reservation. Tours leave every 30 minutes, 365 days a year, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM and are available at both locations.

Just a few minutes away from where all the “magic” happens (Walt Disney World), I found a whole other type of magic called “nature”. I mean, lets face it, if you are visiting Orlando with family, chances are you are going to be visiting the theme parks. It was however, very refreshing to take a day to see other things that Orlando has to offer, like an airboat ride which was a refreshing way to explore nature in its rawest form or a fun day exploring our space program at the Kennedy Space Center.

We embarked on our tour with a very knowledgeable tour guide and hopped into the boat with a total of about 15 guests. This tour is perfect for groups and families looking to explore narrow water trails engulfed in the brush of the Central Florida Everglades. On our half-hour tour, we stop periodically, hoping to spot Florida’s state reptile, the American Alligator. We did not see huge alligators, but we did see baby ones which were even more cute to see in their natural habitat. I’d say you should certaily hold onto your hats because our driver took us for a fast and really fun ride where his turns swayed the boat from side to side as well as making a couple 180° turns which you can see in the video. The kids loved that (and so did the adults — shhh).
