Indoor Go Kart Racing at Pole Position Raceway

Race Head-to-Head Against Family and Friends

Sitting in stop-and-go traffic on Las Vegas Blvd can drive you bonkers at times. It definitely gives you an itch for an open road and stepping on the gas pedal for more than three seconds at a time. What better way to scratch that itch than an open race track and zipping through it in an electric go kart that can reach speeds of up to 45 MPH. We did just that at the indoor go kart race track at the Pole Position Raceway.

The indoor go kart raceway is located about 1.5 miles west the Las Vegas Strip and was a snap to drive to, park and check in for our race. The indoor raceway facility is a good sized area with an arcade, dining/waiting area and a large go kart race track. The raceway is geared towards the adults and older kids and offers both adult (56″ and up) and kid’s (48″ – 55″) carts.

Put the Pedal to the Metal

After getting set up with a safety helmet and watching a quick introduction video explaining the rules of the track, we were ready to jump into our go karts and hit the race track. Each of us were assigned a kart number to hop into and we were lined up behind each other. Pole Position Raceway times each driver and compares their race times to determine a winner of each race that lasts about 10 minutes. This adds in a fair amount of competition to the go kart racing fun and doesn’t give those starting out in front with an advantage as I have seen at other go kart raceways.

Once you are let out onto the track, your go kart will only go a certain slow speed until the race is started. Once the race starts, your go kart will take off and tear down the first straightaway. The large track is a mix of turns, curves and straightaways which will keep you challenged, watchful and wired.

The go karts are very fast and you need to keep an eye on what is coming up on the track to navigate through it. There is one point where you take that final curve and you can then floor it down the slightly curved straightaway. At that point you are going as fast as you can on the track, but you need to get ready for a hairpin turn coming up in a couple of seconds. It is quite thrilling zipping through the race track and your adrenalin will get going as you start to push your go kart faster and hear your tires squeaking while taking the turns.

The Last Lap

After you cross the finish line on your last lap, the go karts once again go back to the slower speeds as it did prior to the start of the race. Once you pull into the pit and unbuckle your harness, you return to the race track desk to get a printout of your own personal race results. Pole Position Raceway uses a high-tech timing and scoring system called a SpeedSheet which shows each drivers fastest lap time, average lap time and the race results.

Overall, we had a great time racing the fast electric go karts at Pole Position Raceway and would recommend those families with a bit older kids to head over there for some speedy fun. You can just walk-in for a race, but we suggest giving them a call ahead of time to make sure of the wait times and availability. There is nothing more fun than being on the track with your whole family or friends to see who gets the bragging rights for taking that checkered flag.
